IMPORTANT NOTICE

If you are in poor health, or recovering from an injury, then you should seek medical advice before engaging in any new physical activity. Once you have been given the all-clear to exercise, you can enjoy all the dances that follow to your heart’s content.

WARM UP

It is important that you warm up properly before you take part in any physical activity and dance.  If you are not sure how to do this please refer to physical warm-up exercises that are appropriate to your ability level. You might find this physical warm-up exercise routine for seniors a useful starting point.

INJURY PREVENTION

People dance for a variety of reasons: for fun, recreation and for health. Dancing is a great way to be more active and offers a wide range of physical and mental benefits. However, the range of body movements, repetition and speed of movement can put you at risk of an injury, particularly if you are new to dance and learning unfamiliar steps. You can help reduce your risk of injury by being aware of some of these risk factors. Follow this link to learn more about preventing injuries in dance.
